One state, three kinds of country
North Carolina runs from the highest peaks east of the Mississippi to the sounds behind the Outer Banks, and what people shoot changes with the ground. In the Mountains it is a light bolt rifle for a deer across a hollow and a bear season that opens in early October. In the Piedmont it is a compact pistol for a permit holder in Charlotte, Raleigh or Greensboro and a deer rifle for the farm lease on the weekend. On the Coastal Plain it is a 12 gauge for the duck blind and spring gobblers, and a rifle for hogs in the river swamps.
North Carolina Gun Store is stocked around those three regions. Every firearm ships to the licensed dealer you choose near home, where you complete Form 4473 and the federal background check; North Carolina has needed no pistol purchase permit since March 2023.
